pac activities & accomplishments

In August 2021, we submitted the following petition to the mayor and city council:
We the people of Federal Way demand the Mayor and City Council draft ordinances:
  1. Implementing and enforcing a ban on public camping, including sleeping on benches and at bus stops, right-of-ways, sidewalks, and parks. This includes 'tent cities' on Federal Way property.
  2. Implementing and enforcing bans on public use of illegal substances and public intoxication.
  3. Creating and funding a homeless service coordinator position to connect the homeless to appropriate services.
We submitted 841 signatures and 216 comments! In response, our city leaders pushed through an ordinance that stopped people from blocking rights-of-way in our city.  We're still working on the other points - but it is progress!

In preparation for the 2021 City Council election, we
  • canvassed 3,000 homes, talking to people door-to-door
  • spent approximately 150 hours sign waving (with anywhere from 2-16 people per hour)
We also:
  • held a Candidate Forum for the 4 City Council candidates, as well as a School Board candidate
  • helped post signs all over our district.
  • provided approximately 300 sign stakes for candidate signs.
  • (Took down all of the signs after the election in record time!)
  • We had a digital mobile billboard truck roam Federal Way featuring our candidates.

We have had representatives at every single Federal Way City Council meeting - and other relevant city meetings -  since July 2021.

We presented the following petition with over 500 signatures to our City Council.  Because this is a King County program, they chose not to block execution of HB 1220 in Federal Way. They DID agree to put in stipulations requiring drug use on the premises.  (Prior to our involvement, no such stipulations were even under consideration as they might "violate the privacy" of the addicts being housed.)

Content of No to 1220 Petition:
The Washington State Legislature foisted HB 1220 on us.  Without clear direction, they ordered cities to rezone their neighborhoods to accommodate long-term low (no!) barrier supportive housing for the chronically homeless -- which is code for severe drug addicts.

We the citizens of Federal Way ask our leaders to STAND UP for us and say, "NO!" to the legislature.  Fight back before every part of our community is overrun by drug addiction, crime, and gang violence.
