Drug Encampments
Not all homeless are drug addicts. We advocate helping people who have fallen on hard times get back on their feet.
BUT We have spent enough time visiting "homeless" encampments, however, to know that the people staying in these camps are almost universally drug addicts. They congregate to buy, sell, trade, and get high. The camps become centers of illicit drug use, moving stolen goods, physical abuse, and human trafficking. (We have also found those who are 'just' down on their luck avoid these camps because they recognize the dangers there.)
It is not compassionate to enable drug users to continue to use drugs. It hurts the drug user. It hurts our community.
